Mel works hand in hand with Spitfire’s clients to build lasting communications capacity, helping progressive organizations mobilize and move their audiences to act and ultimately achieve success. As a vice president based in Washington, D.C., she carefully guides her clients’ strategic vision across a variety of projects and issue areas, including education, digital civil rights, criminal legal reform, racial and economic justice, and reproductive justice. Mel is a senior member of Spitfire’s Learning Team, developing and leading highly tailored, virtual, hybrid and in-person trainings on Spitfire's communication tools; designs new communications curriculum; and provides coaching support for organizations seeking ongoing strategic counsel and/or communications guidance to reach their goals. Mel holds an Executive Certificate in Facilitation from Georgetown University’s Institute for Transformational Leadership at the School of Continuing Studies. Prior to joining Spitfire, Mel co-managed a 30-plus grassroots public relations network for a global financial services client at Burson-Marsteller. She previously supported Dewey Square Group’s Grassroots Practice Team with campaign research on a range of issue areas, including open health care enrollment, opioid addiction and recovery, and green energy. Originally from Annapolis, Maryland, Mel graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Arts in political science.
