Dr. Yolanda Ogbolu was appointed the Bill and Joanne Conway Dean of the University of Maryland School of Nursing of the University of Maryland School of Nursing on July 17, 2023, succeeding Dr. Jane Kirschling who served as Dean from 2013-2023.  Dr. Ogbolu is also a tenured Professor in the School of Nursing.

Prior to her appointment as Dean, Dr. Ogbolu served as Chair of the University of Maryland’s School of Nursing’s Department of Partnerships, Professional Education, and Practice. Appointed to the faculty in 2010, she served as Deputy Director of the Office of Global Health (2010-2015) and subsequently as Director (2015-2019).

Dr. Ogbolu’s research and scholarship, teaching, and professional activities have focused on addressing health inequities and disparities in care locally and globally. Projects center on strengthening global health systems and nursing capacity, providing culturally and linguistically appropriate care, and addressing social isolation and social determinants of health in marginalized communities.

Dr. Ogbolu’s activities at the national level include serving as an ongoing member of the National Quality Forum’s Health Disparities Standing Committee; and on projects with the American Association of Nursing, National League of Nursing, and the U.S. Surgeon General’s Office. She has consulted internationally with the World Health Organization.

She received her PhD, MSN, and BSN degrees from the University of Maryland School of Nursing. She had previously received her Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Certificate, Entry to APN, from Georgetown University and an Associate of Arts in Nursing, Entry to RN, from Baltimore City Community College. Dr. Ogbolu is an elected  Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice and of the American Academy of Nursing; early in her career she was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholar.
