Raquel Bertiz, PhD, RN, CNE, CHSE


Raquel Bertiz is one of the lead faculty of the Maryland Clinical Simulation Resources Consortium, a state funded initiative to increase the use of simulations in nursing programs in Maryland. As a Lead Faculty, she designs, implements and evaluates the Simulation Education Leader Curriculum for nurse educators. She also currently serves as a Simulation Lead of Montgomery College(MC) Nursing Program, and as such leads the program in the integration of simulations in the curriculum. She is 2022 Fellow of the National League for Nursing LEAD Simulation program.

Presently, and since the last 14 years, Raquel is a full-time professor at the Montgomery College Nursing Program, and was a part of various teams teaching academic courses such as Maternal-Child Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Pharmacology and Fundamentals of Nursing. One of her interests is advocating use of open educational resources in higher education, and co-authored an on-line open educational resource for health assessment. She had actively took part in simulation education initiatives in the nursing program and the state. Her interest in curriculum development is apparent in her leading the MC Nursing Program in curriculum revision and took an active role in creating awareness and facilitating seamless transition of ADN graduates to BSN programs.

Raquel Bertiz obtained her PhD Nursing and BSN from the University of the Philippines College of Nursing. She also completed a Post-Master’s Certificate in Nursing Education at Georgetown University. As a lifelong learner, she is in continous pursuit for knowledge, and is now currently in a PhD program for Health Professions Education at the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Health Professions Education.
